Black Isle Community
Interpretaction works all over the UK and beyond through its associate network, but HQ is the bonny Black Isle!
Verity was brought up on the Black Isle in a remote farming community called Cullicudden, overlooking the Cromarty Firth with sweeping views up to Ben Wyvis and beyond. She left the Isle as many did after secondary school, little thinking she would return here in her 40s with family of her own. It gives her great pleasure to see her elder daughter attend Fortrose Academy, and her younger one enjoying Avoch primary, both great schools.
Verity believes in encouraging a strong and self-supporting local community. She runs a variety of voluntary activities, including the massive Black Isle Gathering of local small business and community groups in Fortrose Academy which is currently biennial. 600 people came through the door last time it took place and networking is a valuable source of new contacts and members.
A keen member of the Black Isle Singers, Verity also launched and project managed the Black Isle Messiah, a weekend music workshop which culminated in a performance of the Messiah by amateur musicians from the Highlands and also much further afield. Many had never tried such an activity before, and could not even read music, but this year's follow-up has already been predicted to be the 'hot ticket' by local media. The choice will be between Mozart (Requiem), Vivaldi (Gloria) and Bach (Magnificat). Watch this space!
